DRESS DESIGN

When we inaugurated our temple in Ujjain, we ordered 27 sets of dresses from Vrindavan, Mumbai and Mayapur for our deities - Sri Sri Radha Madan-Mohan, Sri Sri Krsna-Balarama and Sri Sri Gaura-Nitai. However, in due course of time we started to feel the need to make our own dresses and employed craftsmen from different parts of India and set up our own workshop. Those days we did not have any idea that this humble endeavor of ours would gain such popularity and devotees from different parts of the world would appreciate the designs, craftsmanship and beauty of our work so much that orders would start to pour in.

Today we are making dresses for various temples from all over the world. Among them, notable are, ISKCON Delhi (Sri Sri Radha Partha-sarathi), ISKCON Mumbai (Sri Sri Radha-Rasabihari), ISKCON Madurai, ISKCON Dwarka, ISKCON New Jersey and ISKCON
South Africa.
All these temples are getting their dresses made here not only because of the very high quality of our work but they are also appreciating the fact that we are actually trying to render service to different temples, and as a result of that our prices are much cheaper than anywhere else.
The workers in our workshop are not only excellent craftsmen but due to the sublime influence of the devotees and the wonderful spiritual atmosphere of Ujjain temple, they are becoming devotees and regularly chanting the holy names of the Lord. Recently some of them even got initiated.
Since we are just trying to serve Sri Sri Radha-Krishna and the devotees of ISKCON, we will be happy to help any temple to set up such departments. We will train their devotees to learn the art and also educate them about what materials to use and where to procure them.

GOSHALA

ISKCON Ujjain has a well maintained goshala just behind the temple. There are about 12 cows, bulls and calves altogether. The milk giving elderly cows are Sujata, Surabhi and Sunanda. Sujata gave birth to 2 male (Subir and Syam) and 1 female (Nandita) calves. Surabhi gave birth to 2 female calves (Nandini and Srimati) and Sunanda gave birth to 3 male (Sushil, Subal ad Sukanta) and 1 female (Narmada) calves. Sujata, being too old, gives only 2 to 3 liters of milk a day, whereas Surabhi gives 6 – 7 liters and Sunanda gives about 12 liters a day. There are 2 full time employees working for the Goshala under the supervision of H.G. Yogesh Chandra Prabhu, a resident Brahmachari of the temple. The cows are fed with different types of grass and other fodder. Apart from dry grass, there is corn grass and a kind of grass called 'hathi ghaas' or 'elephant grass'. Apart from this, the cows are fed with crushed wheat, jaggery (gur) and kholi (remnants after removing oil from soya bean seeds). All the medical needs of the cows are well taken care of. The milk from the cows is used to make the sweet preparations and other offerings for the Deities.

ISKCON FOOD RELIEF FOUNDATION

Food for Life program is the largest vegetarian food relief program in the world.Food for Life (FFL) is food relief program with a difference -- the food is sanctified food prasadam, offered first to Lord Krishna, thus providing invaluable spiritual benefit while satisfying the pangs of hunger. In 1974, A. C. Bhaktivedanta Swami, shocked and saddened upon seeing a group of village children in Mayapur (near Kolkata) fighting with street dogs over scraps of food, told his disciples: “No one within ten miles of a temple should go hungry . . . I want you to immediately begin serving food.” Hearkening to the Prabhupada plea, ISKCON devotees around the world were inspired to expand that original effort into a global network of free food kitchens, cafes, vans, and mobile services, establishing daily delivery routes in many large cities around the world. In 1966, Srila Prabhupada began the famous "Sunday Feasts" at ISKCON's fledgling Second Avenue storefront in New York. He personally helped cook and serve the feasts. Word of this delicious, free 10-course meal spread quickly and soon was attended by 300-400 people each week. ISKCON expanded and the Sunday Feast became a weekly event in major cities worldwide. Wherever an ISKCON temple was built, prasad feasts would also take place. Srila Prabhupada often referred to the Hare Krishna movement as the "kitchen religion." These Sunday Feasts formed the basis for the current Food for Life program. In the 1970's, ISKCON expanded its vision of prasad distribution and developed the Food for Life program to target food distribution to the less fortunate. In many cities special food distribution vehicles were purchased and daily delivery routes to low-income areas began. Today, the program distributes tens of thousands of free meals everyday to needy people of St. Petersburg, Durban, Bangalore, London, Mumbai and over 100 other cities worldwide
